Buy A Fine Watch To Demonstrate Fashion Sense

Most men arent remotely obsessed with fashion, definitely not to the extent that women are. Men as a rule generally have more important things in their life to worry about than keeping up with the latest trends in the fashion world. However, there are several things you can do which will go far to demonstrating a great fashion sense and you dont have to read GQ or Maxim to do it.

The most important fashion item that all men must own is a great watch and not just any watch but a higher end fine watch that will turn heads and have people asking, Where did you get that watch?

Watches are vastly underrated accessories, especially for men. Over recent years fine watches have become much more than just a tool with which to tell time, they are reflections and extensions of one’s own unique personality.

A fine quality watch is the surest and most rapid way of putting out an image that exudes confidence. How many guys do you know that have a Drawer full of cheap, inexpensive watches like Timexes for example? Not that there is anything wrong with a Timex. I think they are a good watch for sports activities, but one needs to take it up a notch to demonstrate that they have some sense of style.

Anyone can accumulate a bunch of inexpensive watches throughout their life but what they really should do instead is just invest in one or two fine watches that will last a lifetime. Ideally you want a fine watch like a TAG Heuer or maybe even a quality pre-owned Rolex. I personally prefer the looks of the TAG watches but whatever you taste or your budget you will find a fine watch that will fit you needs online.

A fine watch is quite possible the most important accessory that a man should have. A fine watch says to the world that this is a successful and confident man.

Put away those gaudy 1970s style gold chains and bracelets like you see on a used car salesman. You do not have to go over board, as a matter of fact quite the opposite. All you have to do is have a fine watch that fits you and your personality and remember you get what you pay for so purchase the most expensive watch you can afford.

Celebrities and Their Diamond Engagement Rings

What better way to show the world that you are in love than by the act of giving and receiving a diamond engagement ring? With many actresses and other famous women sporting bigger and sparklier diamond rings, celebrity engagements have become a delight for the lover. The size of the diamond is not necessarily the key as to what makes some of these rings so famous and recognizable, rather it seems to be a combination of the engagement ring itself and the famous lady it is associated with.

The history of diamond engagement rings

Maximillan I of Austria gave the first diamond engagement ring on record to Mary of Burgundy in 1477. He had the ring commissioned to unite their two houses and make their marriage a unifying symbol to the country.

The smallest diamond engagement ring ever made was given to Princess Mary who was married by proxy to the Dauphin of France in the year 1518. Princess Mary was two years old at the time.

Throughout history diamond engagement rings have become larger, more elaborate, and have included a wide variety of other jewels and metals. Diamond engagement rings settings can be made of silver, platinum, white or yellow gold or a mixture of these elements.

Famous ladies and their engagement rings

Celebrities and other famous people influence the look and style of many aspects in fashion and also set trends. Diamond engagement rings are no exception to this rule. The following is a partial list of the famous ladies and their equally famous engagement rings:

Royalty:

  • Queen Elizabeth II received an engagement ring from Prince Phillip that was made from from his mother’s tiara.

  • Grace Kelly was given a 12 carat emerald-cut diamond engagement ring from Prince Rainier.
  • Lady Diana was engaged with a ring made of an 18 carat blue oval sapphire that was circled by fourteen .
  • Actresses:

    • Elizabeth Taylor was engaged to her third husband, Michael Todd, with an emerald cut diamond that weighed almost 30 carats. However, she is more known for her other pieces of , one more striking than the other: the 39 carat Krupp diamond, the 69.42 carat pear-shaped Taylor-Burton diamond and the 17th century heart-shaped Taj Mahal diamond.

  • Priscilla was engaged to Elvis with a 3.5 carat diamond engagement ring that was circled by another 21 smaller and diamond chips.
  • Sharon Stone was given a three diamond, 3 1/2 carat emerald-cut diamond engagement ring by Phil Bronstien.
  • Catherine Zeta-Jones’ promise to Michael Douglas was finalized with a 10 carat antique marquise diamond estimated at amost $2 million.
  • Joan Collins got a heart-shaped diamond ring in a nineteenth-century setting from husband Percy Gibson.
  • Pop stars:

    • Madonna received from Guy Ritchie an antique Edwardian three-stone diamond ring with a decorative platinum band. The Neil Lane ring was supposed to represent their family: mother, father and son Rocco.

  • In the case of Toni Braxton, drummer Keri Lewis designed a stunning 4.5 three-stone diamond ring with an oval-shaped center stone and 2 heart-shaped on the sides.
  • Paris Hilton, even though not a pop star but a diva anyway, received 2 diamond engagement rings from billionaire Paris Latsis, a $5 million 24 carat canary diamond ring and a $2.1 million 15 carat white diamond ring.
  • Britney Spears has two engagement rings also: one that she bought for herself before the wedding, a $40,000 4 carat cushion-cut diamond ring with a platinum pave setting, and one that she received 9 month after the marriage from husband Kevin Federline.
  • Christina Aguilera became engaged to Jordan Bratman after he presented a $54,000 20-carat diamond engagement ring designed by jeweler Stephen Webster.
  • Whitney Houston sports a stunning 4 carat oval-shaped center stone with trillions on the sides which she received from Bobby Brown.
  • Replica diamond engagement rings

Of course there is the very famous pink diamond ring that Ben Affleck gave to Jennifer Lopez. This 6 carat radiant shaped pink diamond quickly caught the attention of the public and has become a highly sought after replica. It is completed with a platinum band as well as three baguette white on each side. The pink diamond engagement ring is reported to have been purchased for $1.2 million in 2002. The ring, while easily identified is also very feminine and modern looking.

Replicas of the famous pink diamond ring are now available for a moderate price. The cost of the replicas depends on the quality of the stones and the materials used in reproducing the pink diamond engagement ring.

Some replicas are styled as more antique diamond engagement rings. These rings have an everlasting quality and symbolize tradition and heritage. The recent engagement of Camilla Parker Bowles in February of 2005 featured such an antique engagement ring. The platinum ring has an emerald-cut center diamond with three diamond baguettes on each side. This ring originally belonged to the Queen Mother and is believed to be valued at over $1 million.

Since few people can afford the original item, there will always be a market for replicas of these one of a kind diamond engagement rings. The quality of the replicas varies, as does the price. It is important to note that the styles of diamond engagement rings that are popular with celebrities will soon become the styles that are sought after by the not quite so rich and famous.

    Pearl Jewellery Buy Wisely!

    March 14th, 2009 at 02:56pm Under Jewelry-Diamonds

Pearls add an aura of sophistication and beauty to any outfit, whether it is a bride’s wedding dress, a woman’s formal evening dress, a formal blouse, or even a girl’s communion dress. Their round shape and white or cream colour compliment virtually any wardrobe.

But how does one compare the pearl jewellery being offered by different retailers, and ensure you are getting the best value for your money?

When shopping for pearl jewellery such as pearl necklaces or pearl bracelets, it is important that you realize what you are buying, and how retailers grade their pearls. This will allow you to fairly compare pieces, without being distracted by deceptive advertising lingo.

You should first realize that virtually all pearls available on the market today are cultured freshwater pearls. Many stores will simply advertize pearl or freshwater pearl or cultured pearl, but suffice to say, they are all cultured freshwater pearls. Natural pearls are extermely rare (mostly due to pollution) and are priced accordingly. Those looking for information on natural pearls can look for an upcoming article at http://www.crater.com/articles. Unless you know how to tell the difference, you are advised to assume all pearls are cultured freshwater pearls and buy accordingly. The remainder of this article relates to cultured freshwater pearls.

Luster This is the gloss, sheen, or brightness that you see. Low quality pearls will appear dull, with a matte finish. High lustre pearls will appear nearly brilliant, with exceptional pearls having an almost glassy, mirror-like surface.

Surface / Nacre Pearls are made of layers of a substance called Nacre. Pearls are caused by irritants inside the shells of various mollusks. High quality pearls have a very small irritant (such as a grain of sand) and are virtually all nacre. Low quality pearls have a large irritant (such as a chunk of mother-of-pearl) and relatively little nacre. Low quality pearls may also have inclusions or imperfections in the pearl’s surface. High quality pearls have no visible inclusions.

Shape The most highly prized pearls are those which are perfectly spherical to the naked eye. Pearls that have a slightly oblong shape (like a football, or an oval) are of average value, and still beautiful on the appropriate piece of jewellery. Pearls that are randomly shaped or having a wavy surface are lower grade, but they can still look beautiful when properly strung or arranged.

    • Round Round pearls are the most expensive variety. They are truly spherical and will roll in a straight line. Very few pearls fall into this category, but they often include pearls that are nearly round.
    • Semi-Baroque These pearls have symmetrical shapes, but are not truly round. These include tear-drop, oval, or rondelle.
    • Baroque These pearls have an irregular shape. Though generally less expensive, some unique-shaped specimens can fetch a higher price than round pearls. Baroque pearls have been made into famous or important jewellery pieces throughout history.

Matching When shopping for pearl jewellery, two retailers may state they have the same grade pearls. How do you further differentiate them? The jewellery piece that has the best matching should be selected. This means that the pearls used are all of the same grade and visually match each other. Some jewellers do not take the time to properly match the shape, luster and colour of pearls used within the same piece of jewellery, and this decreases the relative value.

Colour The colour of the pearl has some bearing on the value of the pearl jewellery, but this factor is mostly in the eye of the beholder. Cultured freshwater pearls come in a range of colours including whites, creams, pinks, lilacs, silver and gold shades. Black pearls are even available from Tahitian black-lipped oyster. Pearls are sometimes dyed to achieve a particular colour. Colour is mostly a personal choice and is also dependant on the desired use of the jewellery, but when comparing two identical pieces, the one that is naturally coloured (not dyed) has more value than the one which is dyed.

Size In general, the larger the pearl size the more valuable it is. This is generally because the larger the pearl size, the pearl would have had to remain in the mollusc longer, increasing the pearl farmer’s investment.

Grading Table The following table uses one common method of grading pearls. Many different grading lists exist, making it difficult to compare pieces from different manufacturers. But if you keep in mind the actual meaning of the points above (luster, matching, shape, nacre, colour) you can make an informed decision. The gradings here are a guideline, and should not be used as a concrete rule that all retailers follow. It can be used to help you mentally compare multiple pieces, to compare their value.

    • AAA These pearls are perfectly round to the eye. They have an excellent lustre, very clean nacre (95% nacre) with no surface inclusions. Jewellery claiming to be this grade will have excellent matching between pearls. Pearls from this grade represent the top 1% of a pearl harvest.
    • AA+ These pearls are visibly round with excellent lustre. They have clean nacre (95% nacre) with no surface inclusions. There is excellent matching between pearls. Pearls from this grade represent the top 5% of a pearl harvest.
    • AA These pearls are near-round to off-round. They have a good lustre with a good nacre (80-90% nacre) with no surface inclusions. There is good matching between the pearls. This grade represents the top 15% of a pearl harvest.
    • A/A+ Off round to baroque in shape, this grade of pearl has a moderate lustre and is composed of about 70% nacre. It has no surface inclusions. Jewellery claiming to be this grade had good to moderate matching.
    • A This grade represents pearls that are very off-round to baroque. They have moderate to low lustre, with moderate to heavily blemished nacre. There is moderate matching between pieces.
    • Commercial/Beading quality Pearls of this grade are asymmetrical baroque, with moderate to low lustre. They display heavily blemished nacre with heavy inclusions. There is poor to moderate matching between pieces. Most pearls of this grade are ground up for use in commercial use such as makeup.

Conclusions Purchasing pearl jewellery need not be overly complex or frightening. Just make sure that you compare two pieces on more than just cost. Make sure that the various grading criteria are taken into consideration, and you can then be sure to make a wise, informed pearl jewellery purchasing decision.

Buying Diamonds For Cut Carat And Clarity

    March 14th, 2009 at 02:56pm Under Jewelry-Diamonds

    0
    Digg me

Weve all heard that cut, carat and clarity are important considerations when buying a diamond, but most of us have no idea what that really means. In this article, we will give you a little explanation of each so that you can be armed with a bit of knowledge the next time you buy a diamond.

    Carat

Diamonds are measured in what is called carat weight which stems from an old form of measurement involving carob beans. At one time, if a diamond weighed the same as a carob bean, it was considered one carob or one carat. Today, the measurements are a bit more precise and one carat is 200 milligrams.

You may also hear a diamonds weight referred to as grains which stems from another ancient form of measurement. In the far east, rice was used to measure the weight of a diamond. If the weight equaled 4 grains or rice it was called four grains or one carat as we know it to be now.

You have to be leery when buying diamonds that are already set or mounted. If there is more than one diamond in the piece then the tag will show the CTW or Carat Total Weight which is the combined weight of all stones. It will not tell you the weight of each stone in the piece, therefore you must ask the jeweler for the total carat weight of the largest diamond in order to really know what you are buying.

    Clarity

There are basically two things to think about when evaluating the clarity of a diamond - inclusions and blemishes. Inclusions are flaws inside the diamond and blemishes are those on the surface. Diamonds are graded by the amount of inclusions and blemishes and whether or not they can be seen by the naked eye.

Many diamond buyers mistakenly think that diamond clarity refers to how clear it is but this is not the case.

Clarity actually refers to the external as well as internal imperfections in the stone. The best diamonds, of course get a grade of FL or IF Flawless or Internally Flawless meaning that it is perfect. A grade of I-1, I-2 or I-3 means that the diamond is imperfect, with a grade of I-3 being the worst.

    Cut

Contrary to what most people think, cut does not refer to the shape of the stone, but to the facets that are cut into each stone. These facets are critical as they are what causes the stone to reflect light and what gives it, its brilliance. Even the most wonderful diamond can be ruined if it is not cut properly.

Jewelers follow a mathematical formula to insure that a diamond is cut to show the maximum brilliance of the stone. As with anything cut affects price and there are several grades of cut to consider when buying a diamond.

The best cut is called Ideal Cut and it is perfectly per portioned to maximize the brilliance of the stone. The next best cut is called Premium which is also very desirable and is less expensive than the ideal cut. A Very Good cut is one step down from the premium but still reflects most of the light from the stone.

In some cases, the cutters vary the proportions of the cut to result in a larger diamond. The Good cut is an economical grade - lower than the Very Good but quite popular with most people buying diamonds as it still shows the stone off quite well. Fair and Poor cuts should be avoided as they do not result in a sparkly brilliant diamond. These diamonds are cut to specifically maximize size but they sacrifice brilliance in the process.

Buying A Colored Diamond Engagement Ring

The most famous diamonds in the world are colored diamonds so why shouldnt you have one in your engagement ring? You could get a yellow diamond like the Tiffany diamond or perhaps a blue like the Hope diamond. Another very popular color is pink. In fact, colored diamonds are becoming quite a trend among celebrities as well as everyday people.

Plus buying a colored diamond for your ring may be a better investment. Color diamonds have an amazing financial track record. In over 30 years, the value of colored diamonds has never decreased on wholesale level. In fact, the pink and blue diamonds have doubled every 5 years in a strong economy. If you have invested in a colored diamond you could make a killing, in fact a high quality blue diamond could go for $50,000 in the 1970s and that same In the 1970s stone would be worth between 2 and 3 million today!

While natural colored diamonds are quite expensive, gemologists have developed new ways to create versions that are affordable for the average person. They do this by treating the less desirable diamonds with irradiation followed by intense heat. This amazing process turns brown and yellowish diamonds into beautifully colored diamonds that you can afford. It can also produce stunning greens, blues, yellows, reds, purples and other colors. Although these colors are considered permanent, there is a possibility they could change during repairs if a high heat is used.

If you are shopping for an engagement ring with a colored diamond stone, you should probably assume that anything remotely affordable has been treated. If you are not sure ask about the stones origin and request to view a lab certificate to verify authenticity.

Another type of colored diamond that is affordable is a synthetic colored diamond. These are real diamonds that are grown in a lab. As they are grown, the natural coloring and process of diamond formation is simulated. Natural fancy color diamonds get their coloring from different trace elements like nitrogen and other minerals that are present in the stones. Lab created diamonds can be colored by exposure to radiation during its creation. An example of a diamond affected by radiation is a Green diamond.

Another way that a natural colored diamond gets color is by its inclusions. Interestingly enough, inclusions are regarded as flaws in a colorless diamond and are very undesirable, but in a colored diamond the inclusions give unique tones and brilliant flashes of color and are desirable.

When shopping for your engagement ring, remember that natural fancy colored diamonds are extremely expensive, and any colored diamond which is labeled to be sold as a natural colored diamond should be accompanied by a certificate from a respected grading lab verifying it as such.

Procuring a diamond engagement ring is one of most important pre-marriage events for you and your fianc. The whole process can be very confusing, with X dollars as the budget -

    * What to buy? A large diamond or a smaller one with better quality.

    * How to assess the color?

    * How to assess the cut?

    * What is a solitaire? Should you buy one?

The following factors and suggestions can be considered before you make a purchase:

    1. Try and educate yourself before you go to buy a diamond, especially on the color, clarity, cut and carat factors. Do a little of window shopping to get to know the current styles and designs.

    2. A diamonds cut is the most important factor to be considered since it affects the diamonds cost, beauty and durability. The diamonds sparkle depends upon its cut, since it changes the refractivity of the diamond. Thin cuts make lifeless diamonds. A well cut diamond can fetch upto twice the actual value of the stone. A wrong or faulty cut can make or break the diamond.

    3. Clarity as commonly believed does not affect the sparkle of the diamond. Clarity does not have any effect on beauty of the diamond.

    4. Diamonds cost more when purchased in full carat values. A diamond of 0.9 carat costs mush less than a diamond of 1 carat and a diamond of 1.9 carats costs much lesser than a diamond of 1.9 carats and so on. Choosing a diamond of 0.9 or 1.9 carats would be a great way to get value for money.

    5. While choosing the size, look to alternate shapes rather than a round one. A round diamond tends to look smaller. Oval or pear shaped diamonds of the same carat value look bigger than the round ones.

    6. Choose a design that has more number of smaller stones in good setting. They tend to cost less.

    7. Considerations of color can be set aside when you set the diamond in white gold or platinum. A colorless diamond can be very expensive, so choose the base metal according to the color of the stone.

A diamond as generally believed need not be flawless. A flaw does not decrease its value or beauty. If a diamond is properly cut, flaws will not be visible. For that matter, nothing ever is perfect.

Despite a host of varieties available, diamond engagement rings always makes your fiance the happiest.
